Analysis of public investment in health: trends, impact and global challenges

The objective of the study is to analyze the global trends, impacts and challenges of public investment in health. The qualitative approach was used, descriptive level through a systematic review in Scopus, SciELO and Redalyc. It was based on the PRISMA methodology whose inclusion criteria were: works published between 2017 and 2023; original studies; articles in English or Spanish; full text availability; documents must be directly related to the stated objective and; keywords such as public investment, government expenditure, public spending, health, healthcare, medical public health. 673 documents were found, of which 655 were eliminated for not meeting the inclusion criteria. Ultimately, only 18 articles were included for examination. Regarding the results, the 18 articles were grouped according to their content: Trends, impacts and global challenges. A growing trend was found in public investment in health, high concern due to the privatization of health and an increase in the scarcity of public resources. It is concluded that the current trend of public investment in health is positive and caused the increase in public spending. Furthermore, investment in public health is necessary to improve the well-being of the population.
