Introduction. self-care refers to the activities and practices carried out and initiated by an individual to maintain life, health and well-being, but its maintenance requires adequate knowledge on the part of patients. Objective. determine the relationship between knowledge and self-care for aging with well-being in older adults in a public hospital in Lima, 2022. Material and Methods. observational, analytical and cross-sectional study. The sample was made up of 176 geriatric patients from the geriatrics office of the Sergio E. Bernales hospital. Questionnaires were used to measure the variables. In the bivariate analysis, Chi-square tests and Poisson regression were used to calculate the prevalence ratio (PR) with a statistical significance of 0.05. Results. a greater percentage focuses on older adults who do not know (52.84%) and have inadequate self-care practices for aging with well-being (52.27%), likewise, those who have primary education (58.52%), have comprehensive health insurance (90.34%), do not work (95.45), live without children (54.55%) and have a family history (71.02%). In the bivariate analysis, knowledge is related to self-care practices (PR: 1.49, 95% CI: 1.09-2.05 p value=0.013). Conclusion. More than half of all patients do not know and adequately practice self-care for aging with well-being. Likewise, knowledge was statistically related to self-care. It is recommended to consider these findings and the sociodemographic and clinical profile of the participants to create comprehensive health strategies that consider their particularities and needs.
